TRAFFIC RULES IN BAHRAIN

It would be a shame if you were fined while in Bahrain.  Check out our tips on how to enjoy the F1 race in Bahrain without spending extra.

DRIVING SIDE

Vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road in Bahrain.

SPEED LIMITS

In Bahrain, you should obey the following speed limits
City: 60 kph (37 mph)
Outside city: 80-100 kph (50-62 mph)
Highways: 120 kph (75 mph)

TRAFFIC SIGNALS

In Bahrain, a unique approach to traffic management is employed, utilising an intermittent flashing green light system. This innovative design provides drivers with ample warning before the transition to yellow and subsequently red, thereby allowing them to safely come to a halt. By doing so, this system significantly enhances road safety and reduces the incidence of traffic accidents. Note that it is illegal to turn right at a red traffic light.

ALCOHOL BEHIND THE WHEEL

In Bahrain, there is a strict and unwavering stance against driving under the influence of alcohol. Any individual found to be operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol will be subject to severe penalties, including a fine ranging from BHD 500 (approx. $1350) to BHD 1,000 (approx. $2700)  and a mandatory imprisonment term of one month to one year.

SEAT BELTS

In Bahrain, it is mandatory for drivers and front-seat passengers to wear seatbelts. However, all passengers are advised to wear seat belts.
